Congratulations to In Progress artist Keturah Kelly and her fiance David Kastendick on their upcoming wedding Sunday, July 8th, 2007. Keturah and David met in Portland Oregon where Keturah now works. Keturah became an In Progress artists through our Fresh Voices Program in Crookston Minnesota. She has studied digital video out west and is currently taking a break from filmmaking so she can make a living. Keturah is known and loved by many of us as we watched her grow from a youth artist to a media arts instructor to a practicing media maker. I hope to visit with Keturah and David on a trip to Seattle in June. I will keep you updated as I learn more about their wedding plans and the future they are building together.
Congratulations to Rebecca Rosa on her recent award from the Norcross Foundation to complete production on the documentary MIS PLAYAS, MI PATIO (MY BEACHES, MY BACKYARD). In Progress is excited to provide fiscal sponsorshiop for Mis Playas, Mi Patio and to watch this emerging artist move into the realm of established filmmakers. Rebecca has great talent and much to teach our younger artists that are just learning how to tell their own stories. MIS PLAYAS, MI PATIO provides an intimate look at four community leaders in Puerto Rico seeking environmental justice against gentrification, privatization and political corruption challenges threatening the community’s cultural heritage and ecosystems. Rebecca lives between Puerto Rico and New York and has been mentored by In Progress founder and board member Bienvenida Matias. She has also received guidance and training from one of our favorite organizations - NALIP (National Association of Latino Independent Producers).
We promise to keep you posted as Rebecca advances with her project so stay posted!
